Week 58: Easter Week!!

MERRY EASTER EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Monday: The first councilor of the branch presidency invited us over for their Family Home Evening. We went and man it was so much fun. Their little 7 year old daughter was in charge of it and she did an awesome job. WE talked about how we can strengthen families. We had dinner after that and she fed us papusas! they were soooooooo good! Man. It was my first time eating them and I was way impressed. We talked about the Branch and he gave us some names of people to go visit (that plays a role later on in the week)

Tuesday: We met with Reyna. She talked to Presidente on Sunday and we asked her how it went. This is what she said, "Hermanas I can't go to the temple." We could see the disappointment on her face. We talked about why and found out that she isn't married to her boyfriend. They have been living together for 14 years and just never got married. Reyna said that she talked to her boyfriend about it and he pretty much said that he doesn't want to get married. He said, maybe when we have been together for 25 years. So pretty much that crushed Reyna's dreams of going to the temple. We talked about it with her and told her that God has a plan. God wants her to go to the temple so he will provide a way. As we were talking and reading in the Book of Mormon, her face lit up. You could see that an idea had come into her head. She said, "if he won't marry me, what if I move out? would that work?" we said YES!!! So she is super on track and is talking with her boyfriend to try and figure everything out. I am super excited for her. She is so determined and her faith is so strong.

Wednesday: We had dinner with Hna Escobar. She is the lady that took us to the zoo a while back. Well so on Saturday she fell and got really hurt. so the fact that she was walking around and talking to us was a miracle. We haven't seen her in about 3 weeks because she has been so sick and then she fell.. So getting over to her house and getting to talk with her and visit her was a miracle. I missed her so much. she is a little angel.

Thursday: Zone Conference!! that is the meeting that we have with our mission president and about 30 other missionaries. It was crazy good. The two main themes were repentance and teaching by the spirit. I learned so much. We also got new phones. And so now the whole mission is in the process of learning how to use new phones. haha It's been quite an adventure.

Friday: We were supposed to go on exchanges with the STLs but one of them started throwing up in the morning, so we didn't go! Since we had some extra time Hermana Medeiros and I decided to go try one of the people that Hno Figueroa asked us to go try. We drove over there, knocked the door and her son answered. He said that his mom, Teresa, was working a ton and prolly wouldn't be home until super late. Then about 2 minutes later Teresa pulled up!  #Miracle!!! we went in and talked with her and she opened up and told us a lot of stuff. We invited her to the Relief Society activity. And guess what!!! She came!!! It was her first time in the church building for over a year. It was really cool to see her faith in action as she came to the activity.

Saturday: A crazy crazy day. We were biking all day and we were biking from place to place like chickens with our heads cut off! there were so many people to see. And we were talking to so many people along the way. We met with Reyna, Oymed a lady who just wanted to bash, helped a guy take down his brick fence, got chased by a chiwawa (sp), taught Erik a lesson, and then biked to dinner where we ate the best hamburger I have ever had. Then we went to the Women's General Broadcast. We watched it in Spanish and I think I understood a good part of it haha. We are going to listen to it again in English this week :)

Sunday: EASTER!!!!!!! It was a good easter. I am so grateful for a Savior who loves me. He wants to help me and heal me. We saw so many miracles on Easter Sunday! Teresa came to church with her two kids! Reyna came as well and she brought one of our invetigators Rosa. Later that evening we taught Rosa with Hna. Quiroz and it was amazing. Rosa has such a curiosity about this gospel. Her mother is a new member and Rosa wants to figure out what this gospel is all about.

I have studied a lot on the atonement and on repentance this week. One of my all time favorite scriptures is Mosiah 14:3-5 THis is Isaiah talking about Christ. He says:
3 He is despised‍ and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief; and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

4 Surely he has borne‍ our griefs, and carried our sorrows; yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.

5 But he was wounded‍ for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

It is true. Every word of it. He knows and he can help us.

I hope you all and a wonderful Easter Sunday :)

Week 57: Almost Easter

One more week until easter!!! woohooo!!! Iam so excited!  I love this time of year so much. Everyone is a little more focused on Jesus Christ. We have been sharing the #hallelujah video with everyone that we can and we have seen sooo many miracles!! here are a few of the many we have seen.

Monday: Took Hermana Quiroz and Reymundo to go teach Idalgo. Idalgo is doing well. He is working a toooooon but is still making time for the gospel. He wants it to change his life. He is on fire and progressing towards his baptism for the 16th of April. We went over on Monday night with these two members and taught him the Law of Chastity. It was Hermana Medeiros' first time teaching the Law of Chastity and she did so amazing! Having those two members there was perfect too. Members at lessons is the best thing ever!!!! At the end of the lesson Idalgo and Reymundo were talking about the singles ward. haha they talked about finding good wives. It was super funny.

Tuesday: Reyna Ortiz. Oh man. I don't know if I mentioned her last week, but she is a member who has been inactive for a while. She decided one day to come to church and now she wants to go to the temple. She is so determined to make it there! We drove with her to the temple on Tuesday to walk around and feel the great spirit that is there. We watched #hallelujah with her and she told us that she is ready to make the changes that she needs to, so that she can go into the temple. She is making a lot of big changes in her life and it is so amazing to see! If she can do it, we all can do it!!!

Wednesday: We were invited to a less actives house to eat. HUGE MIRACLE! And we were talking about Mexico and everything and then the member asked me what part of Mexico I was from! #lifemade It was so funny because we joked around about it and then he told me that I sound like my parents were from Northern Mexico and I grew up here in the states. haha Mom and Dad I guess you guys are now from Aguas Calientes too! haha

Thursday: Saint Patricks day!!! Hermana Medeiros and I got all decked out for St Pattys! we even put little hats on our bike helmets!! but the hugest miracle of Thrusday was our lesson with Rafeal and Antony that night. We had plans to teach them the Word of Wisdom in preparation for their baptisms. I knew before we taught them the lesson that they had problems with it. And because of that I was suuuuuper nervous. I hadn't ever taught someone who currently had problems, the word of wisdom. So I had been fasting and praying over this lesson. We got in there and I was still nervous. We started going and we shared #hallelujah with them. The spirit was realllllly strong. You could have cut it with a knife. You could tell the both Rafael and Antony were feeling it. Right then I shared a very personal story and I was able to testify to them of the atonement. As I was talking it hit me like a brick wall that the atonement covers everything. It changes people. It is changing me! The reality of it all hit me all at once and I tried my very best to explain it to them. "Just as the atonement has helped my brother change and now be ready to go on a mission, it has changed me. I am a different person because of it and I know and testify that it can change you. You can quit smoking. The atonement covers that too." They both commit to quit smoking that night. They told us that they knew they would be blessed if they did it. I am so grateful for a Savior that was kind enough to suffer and die for me.

Friday: We had a huge branch activity!! the Young women put on a dinner and a desert auction to raise money for girls camp. It was a huge success!

Saturday: I was super lucky and blessed to be able to go to lunch with my Recent Convert Roberto from the North OKC branch. I don't know if yall remember me talking about him, but I know I did a lot. My mission president gave me permission to go to lunch with him (for those of you who know how the mission goes, that is a very very rare opportunity) so on Saturday we went to Golden Corral!!! It had been six months since I had seen him and it was like seeing an old friend! It felt like no time had passed by. It has been 6 months since I have seen him. We talked and laughed and caught up on old times. At the end of our visit he bore his testimony. He said that when we first found him he didn't even know if he wanted anything to do with God. He wasn't super sure. He said that we came and we taught him and we showed him that he was son of god. He said he felt the love of God for the first time in a long time. He told me that he just needed a push. I was lucky enough to be the person to give him the little push that he needed to find the gospel. He was glowing the whole time and I was so grateful that he still has the fire of the gospel burning in his soul.

I want to testify that I know that Christ lives. He loves us. He suffered and died for us. He also was resurrected so that we can find new life in him. Find new life in Christ this week by learning more about him. #hallelujah I love you all so much and I love my Savior.

Have a fantabulous week!!

Week 56: #aleluya

Merry Spring Break!!!

I don't know if yall are on spring break, but Oklahoma is :) so all the little kids are running around crazy. It is way fun. We have been on bikes a lot this week and we have gotten to talk to so many little kids that are outside playing! That is actually how we meet Socorro! We talked to her kids playing outside and then she said "pasale!" which means come in! We taught her about the Book of Mormon and it was awesome.

So for those of you who don't know the church just came out with a new Easter video. It is AMAZING! I was blown away. I love it. Check it out and share it with your friends :) We are sharing it like crazy here in Oklahoma.  https://www.mormon.org/easter/follow-him

My companion is doing amazing. Hna Medeiros is outstanding and everyday she improves as a missionary and it is so cool to see! She teaches me waaaaaaaay more than I teach her Shout out to her parents for being amazing people and letting their daughter come on a mission so that she could teach me how to do missionary work :) She is a hard worker, and we have fun! Which is amazing. This gospel is joyful and sharing it with others is even more joyful :)  A few fun things that we did together this week. The elders dropped us off for an apt and the family didn't answer.... So we were stuck without a car, without bikes.... so we walked!!! we walked and talked and walked some more and had a lot of fun. We sure felt grateful for the car after that haha.

Yesterday we had an amazing lesson with the Deleon family. They are the family that was baptized about a month and half ago (my first week here in the south) We all loaded up into their car and drove to the temple. We walked around with them, took pictures, and then had an amazing lesson. I know that the power of the temple is real. It works miracles in us. Adriana (the mom) told us how she really wants to go inside. She said she doesn't know why, but something is pulling her in. She want's to feel that she is worthy and ready to enter again. I know that she can and it is all thanks to the atonement of Christ.

Miracle! Last Sunday Reyna came to church. She told us that she wanted to go back to the temple.  So we met with her this week. We talked about her past and her goals for the future. She has gone through a lot and still has a lotto work on, but the most amazing thing is that she is trying. She has the desire to change. That is the most important thing. After talking to her and after going to the temple with the Deleon family, I was reflecting I realized that I have been pushed and stretched and pulled in ways that I didn't even know were possible. I wish I could tell you about some of the internal battles that I have gone through and am going through every day. But there is no way to put it on paper. I've tried, but I just cant. But what I have learned from those fights and battles is far more important. There were a couple times when I just wanted to quit. But I trusted in the Lord's promise in 1 Nefi 3:7 He won't give us a commandment, or a trial that we can't overcome with him. Just like what we learn in the temple. Satan is given a little bit of power to tempt and try us, but we are given power, through Jesus Christ, to completely overcome Satan. Those promises become real in the mission. I have begun to see how they apply to me. I learn about the atonement. How it helps and aids me. How Christ is right there fighting with me. I also get to see other people learn and apply that too. I think of Bartolo. Man. He understood the atonement. He let it change him. He trusted in the promise in 1 Nefi 3:7 that he would be able to overcome his challenges if he turned to god. He saw that quickly and applied it. Some of us aren't so quick to listen to the spirit. I think of Roberto. He is still battling with a struggle that he has, but he knows that he can overcome it someday. I have learned so much from them and from everyone that I have met here in Oklahoma.

I love you all so much and I hope y'all have a wonderful week! sorry this email is kinda scatterbrained, but I know this church is true and I love being a missionary!

Week 55: Team Fuego is back!!!

Where to start....  So many good things have happened this week.

We had transfers this week. My new companion is Hna Medeiros! She is amazing. Holy cow. She is my trainee and she is outstanding. For her first week as a missionary she is outstanding. A quick low down on her. She is turning 21 this month #fiestas She went to BYU before her mission. She is from Centerville Utah. She went to the Mexico MTC #theonlytrueandlivingmtc Her spanish is amazing. Every time that she talks, I am blown away by what she can say. Her Spanish is way further advanced than my was my first week in Oklahoma! She has so much Greenie fire! It is so real and it is so good. I miss the fire! We have named ourselves Team Fuego! because we are on fire! haha she is so much fun and we are getting along really well. We have already seem so many miracles these past 5 days and I can't wait to see what this next transfer brings!!

For all of you guys who remember Idalgo, we got in with him again!! He is doing amazing. It had been about two weeks since we had been to his house.  He did come to church in those past two weeks, but we weren't able to get into his home. Until Saturday night. We talked about baptism again and he said that he still wants to be baptized, but he thinks that the 12th of this month is too soon and that he doesn't feel ready. so we reset his baptismal date for the 16th of April! he is super excited for it and is willing and ready to work for it. After we talked about his baptism we taught him about the Word of Wisdom (sometimes this can be a scary lesson when you don't know how the investigator is going to take it) but we taught it and Hna Medeiros did such an amazing job of teaching what the word of wisdom is and testifying about how it blesses us! Idalgo said that he would leave everything behind so that he can be baptized! #miracles he didn't have any major problems and at the end of the lesson he was testifying back to us why we should live the word of wisdom. Another huge miracle is that he was planning to move to Texas for work, but he found a job here that will keep him busy! aka Idalgo isn't moving!!! He is doing so well and is so prepared to hear this message #blessed

Also on Saturday (Saturday was one of the best days ever!) Hna Medeiros and I had the privilege of going to the temple! Do you know why??????? Because Rosi Guerrero was going to do baptisms in the temple for the first time!!!! sooooo wonderful! We got to the temple and Rosi and all the Stillwater people were still outside. I saw Rosi and I litterally could see her glowing. I haven't seen her glow so much!!! the light within her is growing ever so bright! We went in and I helped her around. When she had finished doing baptism she came over and talked to me. It was a very tender moment to be able to sit next to someone that I love so much in the House of the Lord. I can't even try to begin to explain the joy I felt in those moments with her. We talked about God and how He loves each of us and how sometimes we get to see a little bit of that love. She is so dear to me! Ah! I wish y'all could meet her and see her glow!

Mama Snowden came back to Oklahoma!!!! Her and her wonderful parents and little brother took us out to eat at Outback. It was so much fun to get to see her again! and also meet her wonderful parents! I prolly freaked Scott and Sandy Snowden out because I knew so much about them, but it was so fun to finally meet the people that I think so highly of! Thanks Scott and Sandy for raising an amazing daughter and sharing her with me here in Oklahoma!!!

I think those are the main milargros that we saw this week. The hand of the Lord is in this work. And there isn't anything that is going to stop it. I was studying this week about the Doctrine of Christ and a focused a lot this week on the role of the Holy Ghost in all of it. The holy ghost is the glue that holds the doctrine of Christ together. With out the Spirit, everything would fall apart. We couldn't do our work as missionaries because there wouldn't be anything divine to back up what we teach. The spirit is so important. I pray that we all can look for the spirit more in our lives. it is the only way that we can succeed in this life :) I love you all! Have a wonderful week!

Week 54: Transfers yet again!

I have some news!!!

#1 McKay got his mission call!!! he is going to be serving in the Brasil Salvador South mission! Mckay I am so proud of you! You will love your mission. Congrats little brother!

#2 Transfers are this Wednesday. Here is what is happening. Hna Hunt is leaving and going to Mustang to an English ward. I am staying here in the OKC South 6th branch and I will be training a new missionary!!! this little missionary will be getting off the plane tomorrow and I will pick her up Wednesday morning and we will go out and work. Her first day in the mission field.  On Wednesday the 24th I had a meeting with President Walkenhorst. He trained us how to train these new missionaries. Before the meeting I was really nervous, but now I feel super excited and super honored to be trusted with one of the Lords missionaries. I am super excited to learn and be stretched and work hard with this new missionary. It will be an opportunity like none other!

so yup those were the 2 biggest things from this week. I super excited for what is to come. This last week has been a crazy one. I feel like I have never planned so much in my life!!! but it all worked out wonderfully. We had a super successful week.

Do yall remember Antonio? He is the man from the Dominican Republic. Well guess what! We had a lesson with him on Friday. We took an older couple with us, the Romero's, and the lesson was amazing! We read the introduction to the Book of Mormon and explained why we have it and how it is important to read it because that is how we gain a knowledge of the things of God. At the end of the lesson he asked for a specific reading assignment! (that never happens) Then on Sunday the Romero's picked him up for church! He came and loved Sacrament meeting. I talked to him a little bit before the meeting hand he told me that he had read Alma chapter 9 that morning and loved it. I told him that I read Alma 32 that morning and he opened up to it and started reading! He is so prepared. I pray that he will continue on this path, because it is the best one out there!

Another miracle! We decided to call Idalgo and see how he was doing. He told us that he moved to Texas, but when we called him we found out he was still here in OKC!! So we invited him to church again and he also came!

The work is going forward. I wish I had more time to write, but We have to head out because Hna Hunt has to get some things done before she gets transferred.

But I love each and everyone of you! Mckay. Keep pushing forward.  Thank you for your examples and your love. I know this church was restored through a living prophet. I know that we can be together forever as families. I know that the atonement is real. Through the atonement is the only way that we can be healed and be happy. We always have a second chance.

onward and upward!
